Nicholas J. Mandalakas MD joined First Coast Heart & Vascular Center in 2019.
A native of Western Pennsylvania, Dr. Mandalakas previously worked for over 25 years in the Harrisburg, Reading and Lancaster areas, most recently for UPMC Cardiology.
He is a graduate of the 5 year medical program at Penn State and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He then trained in internal medicine in Pittsburgh before completing a cardiology fellowship program at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He went on to train in cardiac electrophysiology and pacing at Tufts /New England Medical Center Hospitals in Boston.
His interests include implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators, catheter ablation, specialized techniques for lead removal, leadless pacemakers and subcutaneous defibrillators. He previously has done pacemaker research and was involved in very early implantation of biventricular defibrillators at Lancaster General Hospital.
Dr. Mandalakas believes that device therapy is most successful when there is a great deal of attention also focused both on device programming and medical management of the patient’s conditions, especially congestive heart failure.
In his spare time, he plays golf and likes the beach. He also enjoys traveling to a family home in Greece.
