Kristen Currie, MD, FACC joins First Coast Heart and Vascular from New England, where she
trained at Brown University, Rhode Island, and at the University of Massachusetts, where she
earned her medical doctorate and completed internship and residency in internal medicine and
a 3-year fellowship in the subspecialty of cardiovascular diseases. She was elected Chief Fellow
in the years 2002 and 2003.
Dr. Currie brings more than 15 years of clinical experience to the practice, with special interests
in coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, heart rhythm disorders with a focus on atrial
fibrillation, congestive heart failure, women’s cardiac health, cardiovascular disease prevention,
and cardiovascular risk management. Expertise includes interpretation of EKG, Holter, event,
and implanted loop monitoring, transthoracic echocardiography, nuclear SPECT stress, stress
echo, and performance of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).
Before matriculating to Florida, Dr. Currie served for over a decade on staff at Berkshire
Medical Center in western Massachusetts, where she provided inpatient and outpatient
consultation, and as assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts, teaching medical
residents. In addition, she was Medical Director of the Center for Cardiac Rehabilitation at BMC.
Past research interests include studies in peripheral, coronary and pulmonary vasodilation trials
performed with a team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She has publications in
The American Journal of Physiology and Circulation.
Dr. Currie came to Florida to enjoy the great outdoor weather with beloved activities that
include running, tennis, paddle boarding, yoga, and walking on the beach.
